Happy Hour: John Watling’s Distillery

‘Happy Hour’

Here at Bahamas Boutique Hotels having a cocktail is an experience, from enjoying an ice cold Kalik with our toes in the sands to sipping on an evening cosmo while stargazing. Thus we created the ‘Happy Hour’ Series, in which we take you on a tour of the hottest, unique and Most Over-the-top drinking experiences in The Bahamas.  The first feature is visiting a bar that is nestled in a historic home built in 1700’s. Oh did we mention that the home was converted into a distillery? Yes, History and a bar who makes their own spirits. This dream is called The John Watling Distillery located on the Buena Vista Estate.

John Watling’s Distillery

Well, I’m not a drinker so I usually opt for a virgin cocktail. An Arnold Palmer to be honest.  However, a sip of a friends’ Pina Colada at John Watling had me tempted to go head first into the alcohol world, no looking back. John Watling’s Amber Rum was used in the daiquiri and it added a nice sweetness to the drink without giving me that overpowering alcohol aftertaste. At this distillery, free tours show guest the history and the production process for Watling’s handcrafted rum. You can inhale the rum’s aroma from barrels during the tour and taste rum from the very welcoming mixologists at the end. Enjoy my pina colada daiquiri or try the many other drinks the bar offers, maybe the Rum Dum which I heard great things about.

Location: Downtown, Nassau, Bahamas | Pricing: $10-$15 | Serves Food: No
